What is HIFU?

This innovative, highly effective method offers the most modern, non-invasive lifting option for almost all areas of the body. The natural ageing process causes the skin to lose its elasticity and resilience. With the HIFU method, it is now possible to repair the skin from the inside out. It is currently the most efficient treatment method for fat reduction and skin tightening without surgery.

At our surgeries in Vienna and Tulln, we offer this innovative skin rejuvenation option. We use the most modern 8D HIFU device currently available.

How does HIFU Vienna work?

HIFU (High Intensity Focus Ultratherapy) means: High-intensity focussed ultrasound therapy and, unlike other methods, aims to achieve a tightening of the treated area by means of internal skin reactions. This method has its origins in medicine and has recently also been used to achieve an anti-ageing effect.

The highly effective ultrasound waves of the HIFU 8D device strongly stimulate collagen production in the skin. The ultra-modern ultrasound device releases a high level of energy. This allows deeper skin layers to be reached than with previous devices.

As with conventional ultrasound procedures, a smooth ultrasound head is guided over the skin during the treatment. The tissue is heated in the desired skin depths. The surface of the skin remains cool and is not affected, while in the deeper SMAS fibre layers (superficial muscular aponeurological system) a strong, localised heating in the range of 50 to 70 degrees is achieved.

This deep heating causes the collagen fibres in the connective tissue to shrink and also stimulates the fibroblasts, which stimulate new elastin and collagen production (neocollagenesis). The wound healing of the skin that now takes place leads to a rebuilding of the tissue. The wrinkles are gradually filled from the inside. The result is a natural lift.

3D HIFU vs. 8D HIFU technology - the differences

The difference between 8D HIFU and the traditionally used 2D or 3D HIFU lies in the advanced technology of the ultrasound device.

8D HIFU is practically an upgrade of the previous devices. 3D ultrasound offers treatment options at skin depths of 1.5, 3 and up to 5 mm.

The innovative 8D device makes it possible to penetrate much deeper layers of skin (up to 13 mm) and is also painless.

The 3D HIFU treatments previously offered were only effective for tightening the face. The new version of this technology is more precise and is now also ideal for tightening almost all areas of the body.

HIFU 3D

Treatment depth from 1.5, 3 up to 5 mm

Face and neck lift

HIFU 8D

Treatment depth up to 13 mm

Tightening of almost all parts of the body

Fat reduction using HIFU 8D

The MMFU (micro and macro focussed ultrasound) macro cartridges of the innovative HIFU device can reach a depth of 6, 9 and 13 mm and a strength of 2 Mhz frequency especially for body shaping. The ultrasound energy is evenly channelled into the subcutaneous tissue, inducing contractions of stubborn fat cells, which are then eliminated naturally by the body.

HIFU treatment Vienna: Advantages

  • As this is a non-invasive method, there is no risk of scarring.
  • The result of the treatment is a rejuvenated skin appearance without damaging the skin surface. The highly concentrated energy works exclusively in the desired depths of the skin (1.5 mm to 13 mm)
  • As collagen and elastin production is stimulated in a natural way, years of rejuvenation can be achieved with just one or two treatments.
  • There is practically no downtime

Procedure of the HIFU ultrasound treatment

Preparation
In principle, no preparation is necessary before the treatment appointment. If you are particularly sensitive, the dermatologist can apply a light anaesthetic cream 30 minutes before the ultrasound.

Realisation
After cleansing the skin, the specialist marks the areas to be treated. An ultrasound gel is then applied and the ultrasound button is positioned. The doctor moves it slightly and emits the ultrasound pulses at different depths according to a predefined pattern.

Duration
During the energy release, the patient may feel the heat release in the form of tingling or slight stinging at most. The number of pulses to be applied and the duration of treatment depends on the size of the area to be treated and lasts between 10 and 50 minutes.

Frequently asked questions about HIFU

You can expect the treatment to take about an hour. You can return to your usual activities immediately after the treatment without any problems.

We cannot give a reliable indication of the cost of HIFU treatment here, as the duration, cost and number of sessions vary from patient to patient. The body parts, the size of the areas to be treated and the line of treatment are decisive.

We advise you in detail at the initial appointment and only then do we draw up the cost plan.

In some cases, there is short-term redness or swelling, and some patients report a slight tingling sensation on the skin over the first few days.

The skin is already slightly firmer immediately after the treatment. The full, long-lasting effect only occurs after the body's own collagen build-up after approx. 3 months. The skin needs this time to form new collagen fibres. A refresher treatment is recommended once a year.

Conventional therapies treat from the outside in and only work on the superficial layers of the skin. HIFU efficiently sends bundled ultrasound pulses into the deeper layers of the skin without damaging the surface of the skin.

The energy of the ultrasound generates strong heat in the depths of the skin for a short time, stimulating the formation of new collagen and elastin. This tightens the skin and firms the connective tissue.

In areas with little subcutaneous fatty tissue, such as the knees, elbows or hands, a different form of therapy should be used to tighten the skin in order to avoid damaging the periosteum.

Contraindications for HIFU are

  •  Skin with open wounds (severe acne, skin injuries),
  •  Areas with implants (pacemakers, breast implants)
  •  Areas with very thin skin or skin damaged by the sun
